Joint insurance and claims history question.

I've read about the following scenario recently (?on these boards, sorry can't remember and no resutls from a search).
Basically husband and wife had contents insurance in joint names, made a claim, split up a year later, and because the previous policy was in joint names they both paid extra in their future premiums for the next 5 years because of their claim history.
The story went along the lines of the husband/wife asking whether they'd have been better off having had the policy in just one name as then only one of them would pay the increased premium in the future.
IS this true? Anyone recall ever seeing this story/thread?
Many thanks.

Hi fimonkey
I had a chat with my colleagues in household underwriting to see how this would go, the question asked on our forms tends to be along the lines of "have you, any person to be insured or any property to be insured had a claim in the last X years" in which case we would expect the declaration to be made about a claim made as a couple. I think this would really fall under the principal of utmost good faith, insurers would expect you to make reference to anything that you think is pertinent.
I hope this helps?
