Split Spindle Door Handles

The washer on one of my front door handles split and after a lot of goggling it appeared the best solution was to replace them.
The old handles had a Split Spindle with springs and the replacement handles came with a single spindle and a Spring Cassette.
To ensure the lock worked as before I used the split spindles with the new handles and it works the way I want it. Unfortunately the split spindles have come loose a couple of times which means I have to keep refitting them. How can I ensure this doesn't happen again?

Can anyone help me with this? The split spindle has come loose again.

Some split spindles seem to have a screw fitting in the middle which would ensure they do not come loose. How are mine supposed to stay together?0
