Seller selling Nintendo wii concoles but only offering bank transfer?

Hi, me again! It appears myself and family are not having much luck with ebay lately!

my nephew's won a nintendo wii from a german seller then realised the seller only accepts bank transfer, apparently this is against ebay rules. he has emailed the seller several times but had no response. The seller has neg'd loads of other buyers who appear to have made the same mistake - is there anything that can be done?

German sellers mostly only take bank transfer. It's the norm there.

Assuming he does actually deliver to the UK you could ask him for his bank details (iban/bic code) and send a bank transfer.

Your bank will charge a fee for doing it. Last time I did one I think it cost me £12.00 It'll need to be in euros too.

If the item was listed on ebay uk then the seller must take paypal. However, as the listing appears to have been allowed it must have been listed on Ebay Germany where perhaps the same rule does not apply. I understand that uk sellers would actually not be able to list at all unless paypal were offered and there is no way round the rule.

The first thing to do therefore would be to check where the auction was placed as it could well be from overseas if the buyer has set their default browser for items available in the UK rather than items listed in the UK.

  • Hi, the seller is matti-electronics and he is based in germany. so from this i'm deducing that he doesn't ahve to play by our UK rules...?

Looks like my nephew will receive a neg then as he won't send money abroad by bank transfer.

    Ah well, a lesson learned!

Bank Transfer is a perfectly legit form of payment, and not against ebay rules.

..but it's very unsafe for buyers for an expensive item like that.
    My TV is broken!

Yes he's a German registered seller and as the listing currency is Euros he has almost certainly listed it on ebay Germany and not ebay.uk.

I don't think your family is at all unlucky using ebay , the terms of sale are stated over and over again in that auction and they even state in big bold letters several times that 'they don;t take paypal'. They then go on (at rather great length) to explain about bank transfers and how to do them and how much they will cost from the UK..sorry, but apart from the bit that says wii did your nephew actually read any other part of the listing at all

send an email to the seller and ask if they'll take paypal, some do even if the listing says no, they may charge a few euros extra.

send the email in english as most big german sellers are ok with this, but to be sure use a translator and send in german as well.
