Thank you all for your encouragement and reassurance. It still looks awful and I still feel awful, but I appreciate your inputs.

No, I havent cut it .
There were gaps when it was laid, which i pointed out to Head Honcho. He supplied the turf and was supposed to lay it, but he left it to his underlings. He wasnt here for most of the time that they did that. He was going to the tip or something. The job was far bigger than he had planned for as they had to hire a digger to get the origianl grass up, and he had not planned for that. As I said, he was not happy that I pointed out the gaps intially. He was clearly very annoyed that he had mispriced the job in the first place. He is quietly aggressive and made it clear now that he disclaims all responsibility for how the grass looks now.

I have ordered a bigger sprinkler, which should arrive today.

You can sieve a bit of topsoil over the gaps and any dips to sort them out, I know you shouldn't have to but its easy enough. A pressure washer puts out a small flow relative to a hose or sprinkler in ltrs per hr terms, it just does it forcefully so as a watering device it is pretty pointless.

Overall, I'd say that doesn't look too bad for a new lawn. Just water it plenty, fill in any hollows/dips with soil/compost over the grass and it should come good.
