My letter to Mike Coupe, CEO of Sainsbury's

My letter to Mike Coupe, CEO of Sainsbury's

Dear Mr Coupe,

Today I visited your Bracknell store (next to the Hilton, Bagshot Rd)
I was indeed very pleased to see that at this location you do not employ a parking company and long may that continue.

Why did I choose Sainsbury's ?

A young lady, a friend of the family lives in world of miserable tax credits and when she gets a pay rise, the government claw it back and more. She works part time as she has a 6 year old son..
Couple this with the fact that her ex partner, the son's father, fails to pay maintenance and you have a picture that affects a few million people in the same position.

That's the story and whilst this is not your problem, you do have a problem regarding many of your car parks using parking companies who only operate to steal your customers money

So, In view of her situation, I help by taking her for a BIG shop.
Today she wanted to shop at Tesco and I refused. Why ? because the CEO of Tesco holds customers in contempt and fails to protect customers from the money bandits that operate in car parks.

I belong to the Money Saving Expert (The Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking Board) We see many distressed innocent people being attacked financially by common scammers from a host of places including Sainsbury's

I can see that people write to you proving they were customers and requesting a parking charge be cancelled .. which you do.

That is why Mr Coupe, I decided to spend my money with you today...... it is after all, my money, my choice

You may say the parking companies are required to stop abuse, well, that's the sales line sold to companies like yours.
In reality their maybe some abuse but it's so small and the chances are high that any abuser will shop with you anyway

Sad to say that all supermarkets have been sold a pup.
A £100 ticket with the flash of an ANPR camera, bet you wish your profit margins were that high ?
It is indeed odd that you allow companies to farm your car parks who make more profit £ for £ than you do. At the same time losing your customers.

You currently have the perfect opportunity ... guess what that is ?

I know that store well. There is no need to employ a scammer, it is a long way from anywhere, why should anyone abuse it.

I am struggling to see the point of your letter. What does the Martins Heron Tesco do? They used to have an arrangement where train passengers could park there all day.

Good morning TD. Have you mistakenly logged in here instead of the GOM forum? :)

The point dear boy, is to highlight to the CEO that if he is nice to his customers people will spend money with his company. It has been noticed that when a motorist writes to Mr Coupe, the ticket has been cancelled. The opposite to the way Tesco plays hardball

So, I help this lady who at times runs out of money and cannot afford food but ..... it is my choice who I spend my money with and yesterday, it was not going to be Tesco.
I am not talking about popping in to buy a few things, this was a huge weekly shop that Tesco lost out.

2 supermarkets in my town, no PPC, one is near a town centre and the other is not. The one near town centre is closer but depending on time of day I can't find a space as most are in the town centre for the free parking. The other I can always get a space. So the town centre one loses out me spending money in their store.

Slightly off track a friend of mine (whose ear I have bent over the actions of PPC's) has been in hospital recently. Whilst she was in hospital she was talking to a nurse about parking at the hospital (£10.00 per day). The nurse in question cannot yet get a parking space at the hospital and it is costing her £3500.00 per year to just go to work. Add the cost of child care and there won't be much left of her salary.

These people are doing 12 hour shifts under stressful conditions surely they deserve to be able to park near to where they work at no cost or at worst a nominal charge.

The cost of childcare is no one apart from the parents problem - cant afford it, don’t have children - simple

I hope that if you or any of your family are taken into hospital that there are sufficient staff on duty.

I think it's difficult to have a hard and fast rule on this.

As I've said before my local Waitrose is town centre and in a seaside town

They have a two hour rule - which I think is fair enough, stops locals, office workers, estate agents and day trippers from parking there all day.

But, the signs are very small (I am sure they are non compliant) and I haven't seen a traffic warden there for ages. I suspect that it's got to the stage where everybody local (now we have fast trains maybe day trippers don't drive here so much!) just knows the rules and abides by them. Which is how it should be. There do seem to be more cases on here and PePipoo where there is a flagrant disregard for the parking rules on private property and an expectation that there is an "out"

If I was writing to the CEO of Waitrose I'd be thanking him for the way the parking controls operate down here.

I stumbled on this thread by accident and I'm intrigued. My local Sainsbury's allows 1.5 hours of parking (camera controlled) free of charge. Aldi does the same. That's more than enough for me to do my weekly shop.

Surely if anyone has a parking 'fine' it's because they've overstayed the 1.5 hours. This could happen anywhere where you paid for parking and then overstayed. It's not peculiar to SMs.

    I don't see a problem with this. Am I missing something?

My local Sainsbury is free, ditto Tesco. Aldi is the only local supermarket with a time limit. Local Station is free. Sainsbury in Stafford is pay and display but refundable from £5.00 and over spend. Tesco in Stafford three hours
    free.

It's often when people are out of their comfort zone that they get tickets. I would imagine that a good percentage of tickets issued are to people on holiday or out for the day and don't know the area well.
