Samsung Galaxy Fame Android update - help!

Hello,
I have Samsung Galaxy Fame phone running Android version 4.1.2. I need to update it to 6.0 minimum (the app I need doesn't support anything less than that).
How do I do that? I tried the system update option on the phone but it says I have the latest version (it's had this version for ages though so not sure why it's not showing newer version of Android). Thanks!

It isn't showing a newer version of Android because Samsung haven't supported it for some time. You may be able to update it with a custom ROM from such as XDA-Developer forums but that's your only option other than buy another phone.

As above you have the latest update.
But if i knew what the model was i could double check .
A brief look on one Fame model shows last update 2014 .
XDA has very little development on that model and most are Beta builds .

This is unfortunately a side effect of the way that Android works compared to Apple.

Apple provide the same software on all their devices and support it for about five years, and in the case of the iPad 2, managed to get five different versions of iOS, 4 to 9 I think it was.

Android on the other hand, support and updates for it are provided by the manufacturers, which usually means you get what it comes with and on occasion the next one up which isn't guaranteed.

The only guarantee of sorts of any Android upgrade is/was the Nexus series (since Google make and support Android and the Nexus phones and tablets) but that's fallen by the wayside recently in favour of the Pixel series which have issues of their own.

Not quite accurate, the 5C was only supported for 3 years, the 4 was also only 3 years and didn't support a lot of the important stuff from iOS7 even then. The older 3G was only supported for 2 years and like the 4 only supported a sub-set of iOS4, the original iPhone was the same as the 3G, just 2 years.

Android One phones addresses some of your statements re. Android with 3 year security updates and 2 year OS updates guaranteed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_One
