The correct thing to do, is handover the £3,000 shortfall. I'm sure you know that.

Where do I stand on this Do I have to pay this amount to the garage ?

You specifically asked in your own question if there was a way to get out of paying the money you owed, and there wasn't, so you did. You could have actually just paid them when they called you because it was the right thing to do, rather than later because you eventually discovered you were legally obliged to.

So why ask the question if you weren't contemplating not paying? You created an account here specifically to ask if you had to pay. That's why I (and others) suspect you were trying to wriggle out of it.

Why don’t people believe what the OP is saying? If it was the other way round the dealer would say tough and walk away with an extra £3k !

Interesting thread forgetting morals if OP tells garage to whistle for it, what then can garage do?

The document is there in black and white. Price of new car minus trade in with balance FULLY paid.

I always think of Monopoly in these situations ‘bank error in your favour’

    Keep us updated OP.
