Do I have to pay return shipping fees?

Hi there, I bought a bed online which was delivered on Thursday. The description of the bed on the website says that it is 92cm wide, and I bought it to fit into a space 96cm wide. When the bed turned up, it was actually 102cm wide, and so will not fit into the planned space. As the bedroom is small there's nowhere else I can fit it in.

On the website, their standard wording says that a delivery charge of £30 to £40 will apply to returns of beds and larger items. I could understand this if, maybe I didn't like the bed, or I simply changed my mind. But I'm returning the item because their website blatantly gives the wrong description.

I want to know where I stand legally before I can call them. If their product description on the website is incorrect, why should I have to pay £40 to return the bed? :(

Where did you purchase it from? I'm pretty sure they have to collect it free as it is their error. But call them and ask anyway

Hi Matty - thanks for your response! Purchased from wayfair.co.uk. This is what their return policy on their website says:

"...Please note that you are responsible for the costs of returning items. If you choose for us to arrange for them to be collected and/or shipped, the return shipping charge can vary between £4.99 and £14.99 for small parcel courier services and from £20.00 and £50.00 for large parcel courier services. "

The item is a single bed, so I gave an estimate of between £30-£40 in my original post.

But the error is theres, so you shouldn't need incur any return costs. Give them a quick ring and see what they say. Then post back here and someone with more experience will advise you.

You won't know for sure until you speak with them :)

Yes - agreed. I just wanted to have a good idea of where I stood before calling them as I anticipating that they'll try to palm me off. But thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. I'll give them a call, and reply back here once I've spoken to them!

    Sure - it's the Lemuel: https://www.wayfair.co.uk/furniture/pdp/marlow-home-co-lemuel-bed-frame-hfu1526.html?piid=5052913%2C5052914

    Size information for the Single bed size from their website is: 99cm H x 92.6cm W x 199.5cm L

I wanted it to fit into a space 96cm wide.

Edit: I've just noticed that this actually ships via the small parcel courier (it comes flat packed) so I guess the delivery charge will be "up to" £14.99. Still more than I'd want to pay for their error.

Take a screenshot of the dimensions just in case they try and change it...!

As it is their mistake, they need to arrange and pay for the return postage.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

92CM is a single mattress size, they were probable describing the size as a single bed. The legs, headboard etc would add to that so you might also find that's the case with all single beds.

They do say overall dimensions though so they are technically wrong.

Thanks for everyone's feedback! I just finished speaking with their customer services. They were apologetic and said that they would look into correcting the size on the website.

And, yes, they said that as this was their error, they would cover the return fees. Yay!

    Thanks again
