New build development causing issues

Hi

There is currently a new build development being erected up to the boundary of my property. They’re still doing most of the land work but it’s causing a ridiculous amount of dust over my windows and cars. I had my car washed yesterday and it’s already covered. I’ve done some looking but maybe I’m using the wrong key words.

Do I have any rights in terms of compensation? It seems unfair that I’ve got to put up with a dirty car and windows for 2 years whilst they cream it in on a development. I’m just thinking along the lines of them paying for window cleaners or something.

I’ve read they’ve got to try and minimise dust but all they have is some wire fencing to stop people getting in to the site.

Once the weather is back to normal and it rains all the time it will keep the dust to a minimum and wash your windows and car for free.:)

Thanks. It seems to be all the time such is the extent of dust. Regardless of if it rains. We are looking at moving soon anyway (not for that reason) so it’s probably too expensive a route to take right now. I may contact the developer with some queries on how they are meeting their requirements to reduce dust.

    Thanks for the positive response.

I had a development going on next to a property I used to own and the developers were working at times they weren't allowed to and also producing huge volumes of dust. One of the nearby residents contacted the council. The council visited, inspected, insisted on a damping down dust regime and proper start/finish times and actually came back to check.

I don't think the developers were perfect after that but they were better so maybe worth a try?

Thanks. I’ll contact the developer and if they do nothing I’ll get the council involved. Not got a solicitor and don’t want to spend a lot if it’s unlikely to get anywhere.

We bought a cheap car cover for one of our cars when similar was happening across the road from us. probably too much nuisance if you are using the car daily though.

My friend is in a similar situation to you - a housing development up to her rear boundary. Not only that - but a 72 bed care home being built at the same time on the opposite side of the road. We've spent many, many hours watching the amazing skill of all the workmen in their diggers and dumpers, cranes and bull dozers - sometimes all it's needed was a soundtrack and it could have been a modern opera!

Remember - all things must pass:)
