Moving Alarm Panel

Hi,
I've been living in my house for about 2 and half years and have just had a re-wire done to the house - very good job so I'm pleased.
However the electrician noted that the main alarm panel is under the upstairs floorboards and he didn't understand why it was located there - as they are "usually located in the airing cupboard or loft".
He was reluctant to move it as he didnt like getting mixed up with alarm installations and recommended fiding a local NSI/NACOSS approved installer to move the panel to a suitable location - this will allow me to complete decoration and fit carpet, and also aid in future panel maintenance (battery changing, etc) in the future.
I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this and how much I would be expected to pay to get the sensor and keypad wiring extended to reach the panel in a new location.
Also whether it might be worthwhile to upgrade the current system whilst still getting the panel put in the loft? (I spoke to the electrician and he doesnt believe any chasing is required as the main cables run through the floor boards - which is good I suppose)
)
Many Thanks for your advice.
Regards
Mark

Bizarre place to put a panel.
Do you know how old the system is ? While having it moved at the very least if the backup battery hasnt been changed in the last 3 years or so i would replace it. It not that big a job put you will probably be charged for a days work, around here that means not much change from £200 at least. If the system itself is more than 10 years old i would replace the whole thing, technology moves on especially with sensors. Microwave/IR combination sensors are now quite common as they significantly reduce the incidence of false alarms. They are also relatively cheap from the likes of TLC direct and others.0 -
Hi Alan,
Many Thanks for your reply.
I can't say for sure how long its been here, but it's a C&K Securitech ST800L+ and the copyright on the manual is 2000.
I just wasn't sure the recommended way forward, and I know how persuasive some people can be, if they see an opportunity to get an upgrade. But I'm happy to do that if, as you say, technology has moved on.. Just that it would be nice to see some change out of a grand especially after the re-wire!
