hello
i dont seem to be able to find a forum for this but please help,
i recently found out my tax code includes "tax relief on expenses" i have for my work,
which is good news because i do have expenses that are work related.,
However my employer has the OPTION for me to claim SOME them back, and i do not because it takes up a lot of time and i may as well just use the tax relief.
for example, working from home do not get re-imbursed for.
but i can for petrol etc.
is this ok?
i mean is it allowed to claim on stuff that could be re-reimbursed by the company but choose not too?
Thanks in advance

If you are happy to receive 20% ( or 40% if higher rate) of what you actually pay out then it is your perogative to throw money away.0

If your employment contract states that you are home based then why should your employer not contribute? If your contract says you have an office location but you choose to / have an agreement to work from home then you should not be claiming anything re working from home.0

You can only claim tax relief on mileage for business use so you need to keep a record of what business trips you do.
relief is given against your tax due so is given at 20% or 40% depending on what rate of tax you pay.
You do not get your expenses refunded.
As explained you can only claim fo working at home if it is part of your contract of employment that you have to work from home.
You can only claim for items that are used solely for business , such as a business phone that is not used for personal calls.
