No Finance Paperwork; too long ago?

Options
I Know 100% that I had PPI as part of a car Finance deal in 1997 / 1999. I did think at the time that I might not be able to claim on it as I was a freelance IT contractor, but I went ahead anyway. I no longer have any paperwork and I simply know that I did have this add on to my Finance which was with an independent company specializing in balloon payment type car Finance in the late 1990s. I think they were called one 2 one (but I really might just be making that up). Obviously, this company would have had a bank behind them, but again, I have no idea who that was. As credit searches don't go back that far, despite knowing I had PPI, I don't think there is anything I can do, Anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

Car dealers were not regulated until January 2005. So, unless they were agents of the lender (tends to be own brand finance) they do not have accept any complaint from you.

it doesnt matter who the lender it. It is the seller of the insurance that matters.

  • Hi

I probably didn't make it clear. I financed the purchase of the car myself through a specialised fnance company which was wholly independent of the car dealership and nothing to do with them, so does your point still apply??

    Thanks.

Depends who the finance firm were and if they were regulated or not. You'd need to remember that and then ask/complain

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Yes it will still apply as loan brokers were also not regulated until Jan 2005.
