    If the relative was to borrow at the best advertised loan rates, this would only cost them £6 or £7 a month more than the arrangement with you.

    That's about two cans of beer at home instead of in the pub

    And why compare to Santander, when you can find 2.5 to 5% elsewhere for some of this?

    @2.5% 219.14

    Exactly. Far better to let the professionals give loans.
    I don't lend money, or for that matter borrow it.
    Seen lending money to friends or rellys turn to grief too many times.

    If only we had a £ for every time we'd read about it all going Pete Tong, eh!!
    How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.56% of current retirement "pot" (as at end January 2025)

    A relative still owes my partner £15,000! Because he's family the borrower thinks he can just ignore it and continue to take the mick!

    There is absolutely no doubt I will get the money back. I just want to save someone some interest.
    They are immortal, can’t be made unemployed, can’t marry, divorce, or get a crippling and expensive illness?

    How can this be?
