In genral () I agree, but the anecdotal evidence from myself and some others above is not generalised but particular experiences. I wasn't intending to make generalisations, though I fear that some of my comments have been read as such, but what can you do on an internet forum...
Based on my own experiences, though, my feeling is that the key difference is one of culture - the immigrants I lived next door to did not make an attempt to embrace UK culture or society, or even to learn the language - making it very difficult to communicate any issues or concerns. That's the key specific concern I would directly link to the situation of renting out a house to Eastern European immigrants, and I don't think that's something which applies to any potential tenant; then again it doesn't purely apply to Eastern Europeans either, but to any immigrant, it's just that the majority of legal immigrants coming into our country today are Eastern European.0 -
Stereotypical discrimination.
Do the refs, meet up with the prospective tenants. Basically, satisfy yourself as to the suitability of any possible tenant, and as long as you do this, why give a F--- about where they were born!
Just my opinion but I just don't see the relevance.
Well said.
This unpleasant trend of stereotyping is getting seriously out of hand. People need to stop reading mucky tabloids and believing everything they say - especially the stuff about anyone not of a suitably British persuasion. It's even more frightening that people seem to have considerable difficulty in differentiating between immigrants, asylum seekers and refugees these days.
Anyhoo, for the record...the area of town I live in has seen a huge number of Poles moving in. It's interesting to note that the 'problem' neighbours around here are generally the HMO properties jam packed to the gunnels with students...and houses full of what can only be described as locally produced chavs. NOT the Eastern European contingent, who by all accounts have made our wee corner of the city rather more cosmopolitan than it was before.0 -
FWIW I know of one landlord who actively looks for poles - his view is that they have a better work ethic and view paying the rent as the first thing to do with their pay check - not spend it on young ladies called Stella, or on their mate Bud. He has never had a problem with them paying rent/treatinbg places well - sure its a generalisation and there are problem cases but just thought I'd mention itNo longer an accidental landlord, still a wannabe millionaire:beer:

I think Debt_Free_Chick summarised this post better than I ever could.
The title of this post is still making me uncomfortable and I am still confused as to why the ethnic origin of the tenant is so relevant!0
