Possible crash for cash incident

The wife was on her way today when the car in front suddenly came to a stop for no reason so my wife had to slam on.My wife stopped without hitting her car with a gap big enough that when the lady got out holding her neck she could walk between the two cars.
There is no damage on the wife’s car not even a stone chip and there are two tiny marks on the lady’s car in front which are like small stone chips.
The lady then informs my wife that her husband is a painter who could sort out the damage ( 2x tiny marks)and that she wants to keep insurance companies out off it.her husband will inspect the car later today and let us know the cost.
They exchanged phone numbers, not insurance details.
She is clearly trying it on for some easy cash but what would be the best way forward?
If the insurance company come to inspect the wife’s car he will clearly see no damage and there are traffic cameras at the junction where it happened so they might have picked it up.
Thanks paul.

I suggest your wife informs her insurance company of the incident (not accident) for information purposes, making it very clear that there was no contact but that she's concerned the other party is trying it on. That way, if the other party does take things further, there's a record of it at least.

What insurance company does she use?

If your wife did not hit the car in front, then there was no need to even exchange phone numbers. Did the stone chips on the other car match anywhere on your wife's car where it could have caused them?

No contact, nothing to claim for - why is the other driver even asking for contact details?!

Sounds an awful lot like fraud - I can understand the wife being somewhat shocked and mistakenly giving her phone number at the scene, but if she didn't hit the other car then she's got nothing to answer for.

I'd personally consider informing the police of a possible fraud... At the very least, don't pay them a penny and be quite firm that you're not lining their pockets for something that didn't happen

I am not paying them a penny.when the husband phones I will inform him that the is no damage on the wife’s car and that I will be contacting the police and my insurance company to inform them that my wife has been i victim of a fraudulent crash.

I think she just thought she was doing the right thing and was probably not thinking straight at the time.

I wouldn't say that there was no damage - say there was no contact between the cars.

This is the reason i will not travel without my dashcam, due to incidents like this i suggest you go and buy a cam for the wife that way if anything does happen in the future she will have some sort of prove

she should not have exchanged numbers and just said im calling the police, that way if it was dodgy which it is the other women would have made a run for it
People are caught up in an egotistic artificial rat race to display a false image to society. We want the biggest house, fanciest car, and we don't mind paying the sky high mortgage to put up that show. We sacrifice our biggest assets our health and time, We feel happy when we see people look up to us and see how successful we are”

Oh dear, I thought you might say that. They've probably paid out already.
