Rather than link to some tabloid's waffle, you could have just linked to...
    https://www.gov.uk/replacing-lost-damaged-mot-certificate

So you can now print your own duplicate "receipt-style certificate", instead of going to a test station and paying a tenner. Sensible change, but hardly major. And anybody relying on the paper without checking it online is still looking for trouble...

630,000 people paid £10 last year for a replacement certificate- what on Earth for?? It is just a worthless piece of paper, all the details are freely accessible online.

Unless 630,000 people taxed their car over the counter at a Post Office, and had lost the sheet of paper.....
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Not sure I believe that 630k figure - but even if it is true, it's a very small percentage of the number of tests - 30.6m last year.

    2% of tests - 1 in 50.

Many buyers want to see physical proof. £10 is a reasonable charge to cover labour costs of the garage given hourly rates of £50 to over £100.

I'm not questioning the cost, but the 630,000 replacements, there are an estimated 8,000,000 used car sales a year, it is getting on for 10% of that.;)
