Flueless Gasfires
I have seen some advertisements for flueless gas fires which look as though they would be very good and are said to be 100% efficient. :T
I live in sixties house which has no chimneys and is a little "bland" I really like the idea of having a fire in my sitting room both for the warmth and the cosy look.
Does any one out there have any experience or knowledge of these or any idea how much it might cost to install?
I will be very grateful for any comments, will look for replies after 6pm as off to work to try and earn enough money to pay for one if it seems a good idea and not just a desire on my part.:D

We've got one and yes you do get a build up so you need to clean them out from time to time. Carbon monoxide is a risk and if you get a build up of dust you will find your level rising. However, those monitors are cheap enough thesedays so you can stick one on the fire or just take handheld readings now and then to protect yourself.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0

Wow powerRIP That sounds really scary. Surely they MUST be safe in order to be sold. I have PM'd John3:16 for more information. If there are any other views I shall be happy to read all comments for OR against them.0

All I can say on the subject is that I had a client who insisted on having one, my Corgi engineer was really not happy about them. He installed it at my client's request but said they go against all the principles he learnt at college. I insisted a carbon monoxide detector was installed. Also, you need to select a fire suitable for the size of the room, there are guidelines on the fire.0 -
i had a flueless fire fitted in september and so far have been very pleased with it. I bought a carbon monoxide detector and as long as you get your fire serviced annually you shouldn't have any problems. You will need an air vent fitted in the room. Have a look at this website for more info: http://www.burley.co.uk/0

Just get yourself a carbon monoxide detector if you go with them. Then you an easily monitor the levels and deal with it.
My parents had their's serviced recently and the engineer told them the carbon monoxide level was almost at a dangerous level. Clean it out and it improves.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
They claim they're 100% efficient because it sounds good, only problem is you have to have ventilation, normally an open window - so of course you loose heat that way, so they're maybe really only 50 to 70% efficient as some heat will go whistling out the window!0

can you place a flat screen TV above the fire???0
