Is this usual with webcams ?

On Friday, when I successfully connected a webcam to my computer. I noted that anything that moved ie me or panning, the pic was in real time on screen.
But because there was no mike included, I deleted everything, disconected it and replaced it with another (Advent 1.3mp).This not only had an inbuilt mike, but a boom as an extra.
What i do not like about this, is that movement creates a jerky pic. I would best describe it like the sort of moving picture you get when flicking through a childs moving pic book.
I do not like this and have a feeling I might return the webcam to the shop. But what do I need to be aware of to ensure I don't get another that displays like this?.
If it is of interest, its features are, automatic face tracking, 1280 1024 0pixel resolution, arksoft video impression, works with skype, yahoo messenger and other messenging services.
What I have just seen on the side of the box, is that they have stuck on a label stating "Pre-owned Product". This tells me that someone has returned it.
I would welcome any suggestion for a webcam that moves in real time, no flickering and has an inbuilt microphone please.

I've disconnected mine now, but I recall there being some sort of quality setting which you could setup depending on your web connection speed.
Sorry for the lame help but see if you can find something in the setup.
And sorry if you've already looked around for this too. Can anyone explain to me how to put a signature here?

Any help is usefull. Actually I've posted this on five forums in the hope that during the day I will have a clearer picture of what it's all about. I must asy that on the first cam, a Labtec, I was well please that I could clic and save a pic or record, and see them on the same but other half of the page. My problem was no mike. I needed both and to work without staggered pics as from Christmas I hope to be in contact with the Falklands.
A bit later.........Thanks. I've been through all the info I can find, and noted in one section:-
WEBCAM UPLOADER STATISTICS
Connection Mode = Server
Frame Rate = 3.08 secs
Bandwidth = 0.00
Image Size = 320 X 240 pixels
Image Capture Type = Direct Show
Is that of use?

I don't say that your pictures will be perfect, but go for a decent brand like Logitech. The more you pay the better quality picture you will get. If picture quality is important to you get a good webcam and a cheap mic.0

Yesterdays purchase was reduced from £30'ish to £20. The gift was about £20. I'll keep it connected for the remainder of the day and watch posts. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
