delayed furniture

i ordered some bedroom furniture in March with a 4-6 week delivery. i rang Mid April and was told expect mid May as it was on a boat amd would be end May. i had a call today to say end June at earliest!
i asked about late delivery compensation as currently i have no where for my clothes and had building work and paid extra for decorating done to fit with the furnitures arrival, this included days off which i dont get paid for.
they have offered £100 off the order price which is £1600. i told them that was insulting given three weeks ago it was on a boat so someone was lying somewhere. they have asked me what level of discount i expect. . given they have had my £300 deposit since March....how much would you expect to pay/discount?

  • How much compensation would I expect for something ordered from overseas being delayed in shipping? None, and I think they're only offering something because it's easier than arguing with over-entitled customers.

It could well have been on a boat 3 weeks ago and is still on the same boat now, there are such things as storms, customs checks, breakdowns.... Why do you assume you've been lied to and feel so insulted?

I can't see how £100 is insulting. If you think you're entitled to half off or something then your expectations are totally unrealistic.

Take their offer. You're not entitled to anything.

Lets just hope they don't sit in customs once they do arrive

I had a table left there for 3 months, I forgot Id ordered it by the time it arrived :rotfl:

Luckily it was only a lamp table

I wouldn't expect anything. I'd either cancel it or wait. £100 is perfectly reasonable. You're still getting what you paid for.

If you want to push it, that's your choice, not an entitlement.

It's well known that you don't book tradespeople for jobs until items are on site. No one is responsible for that.

A four to six week predicted 'lead time' is not the same as a guaranteed delivery date written into the contract. For 'special order' furniture it is standard practice for the customer to book time off work only once they have a firm delivery date, or to book delivery for a day they expect to be home anyway (eg. Saturday).

A claim for a specific amount of 'compensation' would need to be clearly linked to quantifiable losses that the company could reasonably have foreseen and that the company could reasonably have avoided/ prevented. The company is not responsible for you choosing to dispose of your old bedroom furniture.

A 6% 'gesture of goodwill' from a brief telephone call is not insulting. You have had no losses, suffering or injury and the company have not breached the contract so you are entitled to no compensation.

Use £10 of your much deserved compensation to buy one of these...

...then you can buy a Spa day at a posh hotel or something with the other £90 to calm you and de-stress from this horrific incident.
