That said, the replacement(s) are totally different and a pleasure to have around.
That sounds like an awful experience to go through. Hopefully the second couple redeem the idea of lodgers.0 -

            Hopefully the second couple redeem the idea of lodgers.
The current lodgers are both charming young ladies and always have a smile and warm greeting for me when they get up in the morning or when I return home in an evening. Should I need a hand in the garden for example, it is never too much trouble if asked. Yesterday was spent chopping and stacking firewood for next winter, today, it was hacking back shrubs. In return, I'll cook a meal or two over the weekend and open a bottle of decent wine from the cellar.
Whilst I agree with other posters that a friend should never become a lodger, a lodger can become a good friend.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
