House Extension Extra Insurance Cover

We started house extension/renovation work three weeks ago. Contacted our house insurer and they informed us the following will be excluded from current insurance cover:
Loss or damage by storm, flood or ingress of water is excluded whilst the property is not weatherproof.
- Any loss or damage caused as a result of the works is excluded.
- Any loss or damage caused by the contractors or sub-contractors is excluded.
- Trace and Access costs incurred as a result of the home undergoing building work/alterations are excluded
- No cover is provided for unfixed materials.
- Loss or damage by theft, attempted theft, malicious persons or vandals is excluded unless there are signs of forcible and violent entry or exit at the property.
- Any liability arising out of the activities of any Contractor or Sub/Contractor who are carrying out the building works is excluded.
Our building contractor has their own insurance, but hard to read the policy. I was told they cover liability" only. I think"property" session in their policy has no coverage.
We contacted Hiscox, hoping to get a separate insurance cover to fill the gap what our insurer doesn't cover. But they told us they don't provide insurance for extension only. Instead we need to buy a full insurance policy.
We are utterly confused right now. As online it appears many companies can provide an additional insurance for house extension work "on top of" regular house insurance. But in reality, we really can't be sure what to do next... Particularly after the work has gone into its fourth week now.

See if a local broker (not Swinton) can help you find the cover you need0

This is pretty standard stuff for a household insurer. They will either decline to continue cover or restrict it to FLEA only (as above).
Your contractor should carry public liability as standard however that only applies if they are held negligent for an accident occurring. It doesn't cover you if you are negligent.
You should have a policy covering the existing build, extension and both public/employers liability.
Even though you have started their are specialists out there such as ProAktive self build that will cover projects of this type.
Hope that helps0
