Car clubs - should I be wary?

I've got rid of my car.
I've been looking at car clubs and similar for car and van hire by the hour just for the odd time I would need to use one.
Reading reviews of the different companies and all people's various stories.
Lots of reviews saying they received awful customer service
I'm thinking maybe I should stay away from the lot of them and just think about the normal car hire by the day (with insurance) from Enterprise or similar.

I'd guess the best option is personal recommendation - do any of your neighbours use one? There are plenty of Zipcars around in my bit of South London but I don't know anyone who actually uses them.I need to think of something new here...0

I used Zipcar and had no problem at all but now live in the area where it's not present. Also no rental companies in the area, so when need rental for longer, take it from Gatwick Airport.
All depends on your circumstances, for how long do you need a car, how close is proper rental company and how much it's going to charge you. Don't forget about hire excess insurance. In both cases: car club or standard rental, you can be hit by charges.
If you going to rent a lot, it's worth buying annual excess hire policy, they do offer car club cover and it's quite cheap.0 -
A friend in south London uses zipcar for the very rare occasions when she needs a car (what with living in zone 2) and is happy with it.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230
