Banks & Proof of Address...

Options
Hi my people, I'm not too familiar with credit scores, reports, Equifaxes etc so I've got some questions for you. I'm struggling for proof of address documents and my roommate offered to attach me to a utility bill so I can get a PoA doc to open a bank account. I know some utility bills go on your credit report like gas, water but some don't (correct me if I'm wrong) like TV, phone, internet unless unpaid. As I will be removed out of the bill in a month after we get the doc, which one do you recommend I put my name on so it doesn't get on my credit scores? Also as I'm not an expert I'm worried that even though all of those are valid documents and I've checked eligibility in the banks' websites they might not accept them due to the fact that they're not on any database and when they open my Equifax report no water or TV bill will appear with my name and that address, would that be a problem? Or do they even check with the bill providers if the document is valid, surely if not any 15 year old could just photoshop their name and address and get the job done?

Would also like to ask you lads which banks would accept verification documents sent online, I know for a fact Santander do.

Newcomer to England my dear, staying at a friend's. As I said the bill is not the problem, he's happy to attach me to whatever I want, I need help picking which one.
  • Banks like Starling and Monzo tend to not ask for address verification.

All bank accounts will report to your credit files - I am not sure why you wouldn't want one to?

Not what I meant, I asked if they will check the proof of address I sent them on my credit report, for example if my mate adds me to his TV bill?

I can confirm this about Monzo and Starling, they just need some photo ID eg passport.

My first account was a lloyds basic account, no credit checks, after 3-6 months lloyds will upgrade your account or you can open a starling account ( pounds and euros)

Just go directly to Barclays. Unlike other UK banks, they have agreements signed with most EU countries which only require you to have your valid national id. Other details, i.e. address, they will just take whatever you specify verbally.

You keep referring to your credit files/credit report/credit score. As you are new to England and would appear to have no bills etc in your name and lack a bank account, I am curious as to why you imagine that you actually have any credit files and am also curious as to your apparent concern at having the utility account reported to a CRA..
