Cellar conversion

Found a house and negotiating with the letting agents.
There is a cellar and an identity properly a few doors down has converted into a bedroom. I haven’t checked out the property’s cellar but it seems to be three chambers. How easy is it to change a cellar into a bedroom or at least a laundry room. Would I be able to get someone to have a look for free and quickly?

Do you mean selling agents? (Obviously, you can't really convert the cellar, if you'll be renting.)Housebuy12345 wrote: »There is a cellar and an identity properly a few doors down has converted into a bedroom. It depends on a lot of factors. A key one is whether there is enough headroom at present.
If there isn't, you'd need to dig down, and probably underpin the foundations - which will be expensive.
This website suggests some approximate costs for converting a cellar: https://www.labcwarranty.co.uk/blog/10-costs-you-need-to-consider-for-your-basement-conversion-before-jumping-in-feet-first/Housebuy12345 wrote: »Would I be able to get someone to have a look for free and quickly?
I guess you could ask some specialist builders - but they may think it's a bad use of their time to give you a quote on a job on a property which you may not even buy.0 -

Another point to consider is escape routes in the event of a fire... Cellars are usually damp, dark, dreary little holes. Without a lot of work, not really suitable for sleeping in. If damp is not an issue, then using the space as a utility area would be preferable to sleeping down there. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
It will be a specialist builder and if money isn't plentiful then I'd shut the door and forget about it .0

For 2 rooms, about 4mx5m and height of 2.4m I paid about 15k, for conversion. The rooms very empty so no digging required. They were membranes, had a chanel dug out and a pump installed. I also had a window installed. Floors were boarded, walls were plastered and had about 20 spots in each room. The window makes a big difference, the natural light. If not have slot of different types of layered light.0

Thanks. Yes there is natural light already. I would prefer that was made bigger but yolo0
