justaquestion wrote: »Thanks a lot Biggus, I am having another look at that amplier again and as I also use the rf2 to carry the freeview singals as well this caught my eye from the downloadable manual on the screwfix site,
"The LDL compact amplifiers are also suitable for digital TV signal distribution Ch21-60 with the addition of a separate DC power supply. If you are affected by 4G interference in your area you may need a Ch60 filter (currently available from at800 free of charge).
So a little confused if I need a dc power supply or not, do they mean a battery or what?
Thanks again.
Assuming that your TV aerial is plugged directly into your SkyBox ‘Aerial in’ connector:-
...the co-ax cable that comes from your Sky box RF2 connector performs two functions;...it carries the Sky TV and Freeview signals to the other TVs in your house,...it also carries +9volts worth of power on the same cable. This +9volts is used to power the distribution amp,...the +9volts also powers the magic eyes (when the red led’s on the magic eyes are lit it denotes the presence of +9volts power from the Sky box.)
In essence,...your Sky box becomes the power supply for the Labgear distribution amp and the magic eyes. No other power supplies, or cables, or batteries required. If you look closely at the RF2 Out connection on the back of your Sky Box it says something like “RF2 Out +9V DC”
If that Labgear amp is used to amplify/distribute normal TV signals (that don’t have the benefit of a Sky Box) then a separate power supply would be required. However, you DO have a Sky box so no separate power supply needed.
Hope that makes sense. Pls ask if you need any more clarification.0 -
Thanks a lot once again Biggus.
Tv aerial man is coming in next few days, and as stated I am having the above sky problems as well dish is well rusty after being installed for at least 17 plus years, and sky picture does break up at times, tried a different box, but unless it is faulty too intermittent problems remain.
Not sure at times what really is causing the problems, box, dish, cabling or loft amplifier distributor for Sky, maybe a combination of the lot.
So at the very least think its wise to get a new cable run on dish as well,
Just wondering if I need a new dish, what is the usual cost for that?
Thanks once again for all the help.0 -

Sky TV picture break-up possible causes:
Misaligned Sky dish,...or even a badly positioned Sky dish. i.e. is it being shielded by neighbouring buildings, trees or other obstructions.,...or a VERY badly corroded or damaged dish.
A failing LNB can cause intermittent pixelation /freezing;...it’s a very common fault. (a new LNB is about £10).
Corroded or damaged cables from the Sky dish to your Sky box.
Poor/loose F-connectors on the cables at the Sky-dish LNB or at the back of your Sky box. Check all your F-connectors where possible!,...there are plenty videos on YouTube that will show you how the connectors should be made. You can extrapolate from the videos if your F-connectors are in good order.

As I said in an earlier post, intermittent problems can sometimes be very difficult to pin down ,...good luck.0
