Is TIC the more popular option over JT and the option the majority of people tend to choose?

In what context? If you mean making wills and leaving a part (usually half but need not be) to kids on first death, it's not "popular" it's pretty much obligated.
Perhaps start with what you've decided you want to do first. Have you moved away from the complex and contradictory option of giving one child ability to live in house "for a while" whilst not depriving others? And what your motivation for doing this is in the first place

Why do you need to know this?

You need to do what is right for you.

    That might necessitate TIC.

To throw another complication into the mix as it is rarely mentioned.

    Commorientes (Simultaneous death)

This get quite complicated by age, marriage, any clauses in a will and ownership(TIC or Joint).

Some of the outcomes are far from obvious.

Is there any point or benefit in going TIC and leaving your respective 50% within the will in trust to the children?
You need detailed, paid for, professional advice. Nobody on here has enough detail or expertise to advice you. You need to choose a solicitor who specialise I this. Probably STEP member would be best. You cannot afford to DIY this.
