What a great bargain, I'm off to asda tomorrow then!
You seriously can't catch bird flu from a dead chicken, especially (think about it), it's been through some chicken factory where it's been plucked and degibleted, strung up and packaged - are all the factory workers dying off? Not yet!
All those years ago when there was the huge BSE panic, I went into Sainsbury's and bought huge amounts of beef, sirloin steaks etc for silly money like 10p and I'm not mad yet (am I - I forget)Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -
Every food scare means that food goes in and out of favour. I will still buy chicken and turkey as I don't think that the 'flu can be passed on from dead birds. Having said that I won't be making friends with live ones!0

I think you mum is giving you a poultry excuse and she needs to be tarred and feathered for scaring you. You should pluck up the courage to eat the bargain chickens or take them back and recoup your losses. So next time before telling your mum and you want advice dont put all your eggs in one basket, ask us instead.0

For now I'm happy to still buy chicken. Infact this thread has me wondering if our local Morrisons has any deals on chicken at the moment. Might brave the cold tomorrow and pop down there:D0 -

Ohh chicken, glorious chicken. Methinks I shall have a peek in the supermarket tomorrow. Nice succulent chicken breast for dinner!
Germs and bacteria and viruses - ie all micro-organisms - are killed during the thorough cooking that meats such as poultry has to undergo, so I would have no worries about eating chicken or turkey.
Beef is different, as rare beef is my favourite BUT... well let's just say that I've learned to appreciate it well done. As for BSE, cooking does not eliminate it as it is NOT a micro-organism but an altered protein, which is why the animal must be free of this condition.
I had beef yesterday anyway.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0
