Hi whilst shopping in Asda's this afternoon over the loudspeaker came an announcement that the large chickens were now 2 for £6.00 as they were priced at around £5.90 each I thought great bargain and bought 2 then called in my mams on the way home she was not impressed she said they were selling them off over the scare for the bird flu epedemic which I didn't know about. I am really worried about using them now mam said she won't be buying chicken for a long while what do you think

I think you've got a bargain. You can't catch HN51 bird flu from eating cooked chicken.;)10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j :cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. Give blood, save a life. 0 -
Yep, you'd have to be up close and extremely intimate with an infected bird to stand any chance of catching anything. Supermarket chickens are absolutely fine. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
With all due respect, your mother is talking out of where the stuffing is put.0

One of my friends asked if I thought it was dangerous to eat chickens etc, and would it be safe to have a turkey for Christmas.
I said that as long as it didn't sneeze on her she would be ok....0 -

 If you're getting intimate with chickens I'd say bird flu was the least of your problems.
Moneyowen.....The above advice is true. Tell your mum it's perfectly safe.0 -
Yeah seriously don't worry about it, as long as you cook it properly then it will be fine!0

Me and a mate love stocking up when theres a food scare.
We tend to just wait until too or three days after the main scare and find that the supermarkets have had to reduce a load of meat (usually Chicken or Turkey) as people won't buy it.
Said meat goes straight in the freezer. :TAiming to be Debt free by October 20130 -
I wondered why yesterday in Tesco there was loads of chickens but hardly any pieces of Beef or Lamb!£2 Savers club £0/£150
1p a day £/0 -
thanks everyone you have put my mind at rest I thought they would be ok or the supermarket wouldn't have been able to sell them thanks again0

Because of how people see the bird flu thing, a lot will have avoided chicken and as such Asda will have had loads left.
Well done for getting such a bargain.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0
