Disabled rail travel assistance?

Do you need to have a disabled rail card to get the assistance?

Wanting to travel down south to visit my brother and family, but there are 3 changers, I have cognitive problems and mobility and balance issues, can’t do many steps or down escalators.

I am eligible for the rail card, but it costs £20 and it will save me £13.

Might be worth buying the rail card anyway as it last for a year and covers you and another person travelling with you.

If you or a friend/relation have Tesco Clubcard points, the effective cost is £7. You/they need to redeem online.

re assistance - elderly relatives had to travel long distance by train (flights cancelled) - they weren't disabled, just two walking sticks and very unfamiliar with the system and concerned re changing trains . GWR arranged for them to be met off the train at Bristol TM, helped with luggage, taken to next platform and settled on the next train. Seemed pretty straightforward to organise by phone. They had no railcards
