Moving house and your plants...

Good afternoon,
We have sold our house subject to contract. What is the etiquette for moving the plants in your garden? I have lots that are planted in the ground which I'm more then happy to leave in fact some in tubs too. But there are a handful I'd like to take that are in planters. Should I take them/leave them? There doesn't seem to be any guidance anywhere on this matter. Our new home has very little garden and no grass so I'm happy to leave the lawnmower/strimmer etc. Does this seem like I'm being tight or petty?

I think anything in pots is free to go. Anything rooted in the ground, stays. Unless as said, its detailed on the forms.
I think many would look to sell things like garden tools as a job lot to the incomers any they may or may not be happy to buy. If they dont want them, freecycle if ebay is too much like hardwork.

The norm would be to take stuff in pots and leave things which are in the ground (otherwise where do you draw the line - take trees and the lawn with you?). But in theory it's all up for negotiation.

The usual rule of thumb is that if you picked the house up, turned it upside down, and shook it - anything that stayed put is part of the fabric, so stays unless you explicitly say otherwise.

So planters - take. Stuff planted in the ground - state on the PIF if they're going.

Some years ago, a newcomer to our neighbourhood found that without warning or consent, her vendors had pulled up virtually every plant in the rear garden!

If the plants mean something special or are hard to source, it's best to propagate spares, but sometimes a move isn't envisaged.

Of course, many herbaceous plants willl still split at this time of year and no one will be any the wiser. ;)

Anything in planters should be regarded as movable and going with you, but note the details on the TA10, just to ensure there are no misunderstandings.

I removed the plants in the garden that I wanted to keep and potted them up.

I told viewers that the pots were going with me.

When my father moved 1958 it was the wrong time of year to lift his peonies. The new occupants agreed he come back and lift them at the appropriate time , which he did.

I have a tuber from one of these t plants that has flourished and has moved 4 times with me.

We also did this prior to our last move in early February 2018, although in our case we had offered on, yet hadn't secured our next house (a repossession) so had nowhere to remove the large quantity of planters to.

Before putting our home on the market we carefully dug up and potted the plants we intended to take - that was in the late August of 2017.

Our buyers were not planning to move in till April 2018 so very kindly offered for us to keep the garden stuff (there was also a bench and some garden statuary, obelisks etc) there till we had purchased our new home.

As it happened, the repossession purchase went through very quickly so we repatriated our pots, plants etc within a month.

Funnily enough, I also have a peony (from my late grandmother's house) that has moved three times with us now :D
