Why do we not qualify for anything?

Sorry not another bitter post but genuinely curious as to why we dont seem to qualify for anything as we are relatively low earners.
I earn £20500 pa , wife earns £10500 pa . Wr have 1 dependent child under 16 and an unemployed 18 yr old on UC.
The benefit calculators tell us we are not entitled to anthing yhis tax year but were receiving £22 per week last year Tac Credits.
Our salaries have only risen by around £1500 this year.
So just curious as what us stopping us from qualifying from TC's or UC?
Thanks as always

Were you previously claiming for 2 children and the older one is no longer a qualifying child?0

Thank you .What about the other qualifying child?pmlindyloo wrote: »In all probability this will be the reason.
As your son now receives benefits in his own right he is now treated as a non dependent.
We do get child benefit for him.:j0 -
The benefit calculators are usually correct, if you put all your details in correctly.0

True but they dont tell you why you wont qualfy for anythingpoppy12345 wrote: »The benefit calculators are usually correct, if you put all your details in correctly.
Thank you for all the really quick replies by the way:j0 -
Your joint incomes of £31k plus your non dependants uc will mean you don't qualify for anything except CB0

So you were getting £1144 in tax credits last year but since then you've had a £1500 wage rise and one child is no longer able to be included in tax credits. The wage rise alone would see you losing that £1144.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

The cut off on tax credits for one child is around 26k I think so your joint income is quite a bit too high for that and your elder son claims UC so I guess is expected to contribute a little to the household.0

I don’t have anymore to add really other than excellent advice given. Unfortunately with only one dependant child it does seem a much lower threshold with earnings if that makes sense0
