Sorry for some reason my "can be opened an inch or a bIt less" didn't get into my text ! If your tenants want something that is several inches then maybe those devices would do the job. Not much harm in trying. Otherwise you'll have to fix new windows with something built in. Though the latter would remove legal liability I'd have thought. Otherwise it could be "landlords cheap amazon bodge cause my child to fall out of window".

I think the Half lock 1cm was an option when we got some, and i hear they are far weaker and easy to pop open with a bar, we certainly broke one metal tab by accident.

This is the only one that seems 100% safe, others are more wind tabs and easy to defeat. Not pretty, buy easy to install.

I recently visited a property through work where no word of a lie a landlord has nailed chicken wire in front of every window and claim that was a restraint. Looked aweful

Son's town house has has restrictors fitted as standard. Can be easily released to open window fully (fire escape or more ventilation).

Screwfix sell these which look similar to me. Many others for sale on other sites.

May be worth asking local Fire Brigade or Building Control people if they are OK to install wrt fire escape windows?

I have asked a window repair company to have a look at the windows. I may be able to get concealed restrictors , that will depend on what the fitter says.

Hi, I've got kids and had some window restrictor hinges fitted by a local double glazing company.

They're really great and let air in but stop the window opening fully unless you push the restrictor at the top of the hinges.

You could DIY and change them yourself but may be worth getting a professional in to fit these. If you didn't have kids in the future they wouldn't put you off or need to be replaced again so definitely worth looking in to.
