Missing/broken wheel nut key - am i entitled to any money from original dealer?
Bought my used car last year in March in scotland and it had a warranty that has since finished. However - when I took it into a local garage for MOT(have since moved back to England) one of the tyres needed replacing and was told the car was missing the locking wheel nut key. I emailed the garage in scotland and they had the wheel nut key and sent it by post - i took the car in to have the tyre replaced and the garage rang to say that the key i had been given was too damaged to be able to remove the nuts. At the time I felt a bit stuck so agreed for the garage to knock off the existing wheel nuts and put on a new set with a new key for £90. The garage gave me the old wheelnut key and looking at it (although I am definitely no expert) it does appear to be very worn down inside. I emailed the garage in scotland to see if i could get any compensation for having to pay this extra money a few weeks ago and have yet to hear anything back - but was just hoping to find out if I had any leg to stand on with this as it was outside the warranty? Any advice gratefully received!

I don't think you will get anywhere with this. Firstly, it would never have been a warranty issue as it is likely to have been in the same condition when you purchased the car. (They do not wear out and only fail through misuse) And secondly, the time to check it was when you bought the car and picked it up. No way do you drive away in any car without the locking wheel nut - it is one of the must check items.0

How much money would you like?0

If you'd contacted a main dealer they can usually get a replacement within a week or two for around £30. Just been through this when the last monkeys to touch my car used an impact gun on my locking wheel nut on my Mondeo completely shafting a perfectly good working one I'd used a few weeks earlier, leaving me with a bill for removing the locking wheel nut when a calliper seized last week. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
