Hurtigruten cruises

well we like them. as long as you go along not expecting 5 star like Cunard etc they should be happy. many people said they were on a par with Fred or better and from what i understand somewhat cheaper
hope they enjoy themselvesWhen you know better you do better0 -
They aren't. If they're as good as Fred, they'll be happy although mum's friend loves Fred and once met the man himself, so I doubt she'll like it quite as much!
I've never been on a cruise except a tiny one in Galapagos years ago.0 -
Fred Olsen do Norway from Newcastle and Rosyth.
We did it with Thomsons three or four years ago before they renamed - very good - mind you it was the hottest summer in that area in 40 years, we were parading around in shorts, t-shirts, sandals with ample suncream !!!0 -
In December 2019, we booked a Norwegian coastal cruise with Hurtigruten, paying a deposit of £1,239.20 (20% of the total price). We are due to pay the balance by August 14th. The cruise is due to start on October 13.
Hurtigruten have cancelled some cruises and offered generous terms for rebooking (free rebooking, credit for 125% of the amount paid, and a 10% discount on the future cruise). They are also offering free flexible rebooking on voyages starting on or before September 30, whether cancelled or not.
Our cruise has not been cancelled. However, the FCO advises against all cruises. My wife and I are both over 70. Should we take the cruise , we would have no travel insurance.
We have asked Hurtigruten to delay by one month the date for payment of the balance. They have responded by stating that we can cancel our booking, pay a rebooking fee of £60 per person and book a replacement cruise for a later date.
There can of course be no certainty that the FCO advice will change between now and the future cruise date.
It appears that will will lose our deposit, even though we are advised by the FCO not to take the cruise.

Somebody correct me if wrong - but are Hurtigruten not simply using Norwegian state ferries which deliver mail up and down the coast ?

This is the one that stops at 34 ports during the 7/8 day trip. They also offer dedicated cruises up the Norwegian coast and have some luxurious expedition ships for places such as Greenland/Svalbard/Antarctica which have a small number of cabins and are eye-wateringly expensive!

Werri you would be better changing to a future date. It would be absolute madness to travel without travel insurance.
Cruises are not recommended during pandemics, for obvious reasons0 -

The stops are longer at the bigger towns and smaller settlements simply get called into and leave immediately. The idea of the 'cruise' option is the scenic views though I believe that excursions can be booked; longer excursions would either bring people back to the ship at the next port or they might join the next ship on the route.NoodleDoodleMan said:Shimrod said:NoodleDoodleMan said:Somebody correct me if wrong - but are Hurtigruten not simply using Norwegian state ferries which deliver mail up and down the coast ?Hurtigruten offer a ferry service which also provides the 'Classic' coastal voyage cruise.
