  • I honestly don't know if this would help, but QVC sell some stuff called Genie http://search.qvcuk.com/QVCUK/Search.ff?query=genie I'm sure they also do another product for all over the face thats not currently on the website.

I believe that with QVC you can buy a product, then you get 30 days to try it out, if you don't like it you can send it back. So if you don't like it then yes you will lose the postage costs. But if it worked for you it might save you going down the line of botox, lazering etc.
  • You could also try a home dermo abbrasion kits. Boots sell some such as L'oreal along with several other brands. These might brighten up a dull complexion.

1.A good diet. If you want something you can maintain easy (ie still eat a lot_ try Slimming World, I found Weight Watchers got quicker results.

2.Use night cream on your face every night, a good eye cream, and a day cream with SPF15.

3.Visit a hairdresser and ask advice for a youthful but wearable style and colour. Use hair masks and intensive conditioners to keep the shine in.

4.Don't get stuck to using dated make up. Try magazines for ideas or ask beauty consultants advice-most will do free make overs.

    5.Botox in small doses!

6.Remember little things like keeping your nails and eyebrows groomed.
If it hurts no-one, let it be

I'm 44, and although people say I look a lot younger, just recently I've been feeling like I'm not as attractive as I used to think I was. I've always known I was no oil painting, but this year I seem to have gone through a bit of a crisis regarding my looks. I always regarded myself as ordinary, but not ugly, iyswim. The first thing I tackled was/is my skin. I too am trying to use more natural products, and currently use rosehip oil as a night moisturiser, my skin feels lovely on a morning. I also try to drink more water, less coffee and alcohol, and try to keep my diet as healthy as poss. The 2nd and most beneficial to me personally, was to get a good haircut. This has made me feel, and look, if my friends and family are telling the truth, a lot younger and better. Someone at work actually said it 'took years off me' I changed my hairdresser, went to an older, more experienced one, rather than the one my daughter had been dragging me to which was all young lasses and not very friendly. This hairdresser is about 60, but certainly doesnt look it. Shes even persuaded my daughter to shorten her hair, and everyone loves this as well. I've actually heard other hairdressers describe places like the one I now go to as 'granny salons' as admittedly there is a lot of older ladies go there for the wash and set, but hey, they all leave the place feeling and looking like a million dollars, and this is good enough for me. I am also conciously making sure I get more excersise, extra dog walks, and even doing sit-ups. I did try weighing myself, scales broke, I went from loosing maybe a lb a week to putting on half a stone, so did the OH so it wasnt just me :rotfl: I now measure my waist instead, and lost 1" in the first week of doing 125 sit-ups using one of them sit-up contraptions I bought for a fiver about 10 years ago. I did put half an inch back on yesterday, but the OH is blaming the time of the month, and I wont argue with him :rotfl: This week I'm going to try 150 sit-ups, as I would really like to wear a nice dress at xmas, this will be a first for me since I had the kids :rotfl:
Its been interesting reading through this thread, and I would love to try a home dermo abrasion kit, if anyone has any recomendations, as I've just recieved my bank statement and dont want to waste money if it aint going to work.

  • You could try botanically based products. There is a new anti ageing line that's been a best seller in the U.S. for years.

    http://www.worldwidesales.myarbonne.co.uk

The products are 100% vegan (no animal testing or animal by products), dermatologist tested, etc.

I'm 35 and have had good results with the eye creme especially, but my Mum has used the products too and said they were good too.

The products aren't cheap as this is a 'premium' line, but it's certainly less expensive and less drastic than botox or surgery. (The eye creme is £32.)

Worth a try, and if you don't get results, you can return the product as there is a 45-day guarantee.
  • I'm afraid that there is no - definately no - magical formula for anti ageing. There are ways of improving what time has done to you, but basically it will boil down to your own discipline. In other words, how much you REALLY want to improve things. It really isnt down to what product/treatment you can afford.
Suzi Grant wrote a fab book - Alternative Ageing. ISBN 978-0-718-14846-1 Her theory is "the secret to healthy ageing isnt surgery, but the food we put into our bodies, some fantastic non-surgical procedures, the lifestyle we lead, and the attitude we have to life. Its an inspirational read.
I think deep down we all know what we need to do, drink water, eat well, exercise, and sleep well.
Sunlight is your best friend, try to go out for a short walk every lunchtime. (Sunlight increases production vitamins that help anti ageing.
Water - ah, I always mean to drink it, but I much prefer mine with coffee or alcolol mixed with it. I take soluble vitamin C to help counter-act the effects of the alcohol.
Nutrition - eat what's in season, avoid anything processed. Natural food is the key.
Some products are a treat for skin - but not the chemical ones that cost the earth. Look for organic, natural products. www.rawgaia.com have some great ones.
It may all sound a bit puritanical, but if you really want to see an improvement without drastic expensive measures, mother nature really does hold the answers.
I publish a health magazine and we have been researching this area for some time now. www.wellbeingmagazine.com/gwent November/December issue will be on-line soon with our recommendations.
Finally - there is one great product that we all love - Chocolate - a few squares a day of the really good stuff - over 60% cacao you need - contains more antioxidants than even green tea. Skin products containing raw cacao are great too. So a little of what you fancy really does do you good! :j

I'm 42 and I'm a big fan of the Barefoot Botanical's Rosa Fina intense radiance cream (which now seems to be called anti-ageing day cream on the website). Rose oil is supposed to be very good for mature skin. This is a pretty heavy cream so I use it as a night cream. It's really good for toning down high colour as well.

Best place I've found for buying is here:

Other than that, wear a moisturiser with a sunscreen in and drink lots of water - I always notice a difference if I don't drink enough.
