Nintendo Warranty Issues

Bought a brand new Switch off eBay last June and it had started to overheat so off it went to Nintendo for repair.
They are now asking for repair cost before they attempt a repair as it was bought from eBay.
They are asking me to contact the original buyer/shop to get invoice as they say for all they know it could be stolen.

I have read Nintendo are really bad with helping when things mess up with their stuff and it looks like its true.

When trying to raise a complaint they are saying it has to be done by post and have provided a PO Box bin!!!

First they asked for payment as they said it was an operating system error and they don’t cover this. Three phone calls later they changed their story, however I have also asked what the fault is and was sent an email with:

'The fault found was in your Nintendo Switch. This is an operating system problem, which is covered by the warranty.

As you know, in order to activate the warranty we need to have a valid proof of purchase, otherwise the repair will have a cost associated.'

Would appreciate it if you guys could advise if there is anything else I can do before stumping up the cost of the repair.

I have provided the receipt from eBay and PayPal but they say this is not sufficient.
Any help would be greatly appreciated on what you guys think we should do.

It might be brand new and unused to you but if you bought it from a private seller it’s second hand and not new full stop, weather the guarantee is transferable or not should be in the guarantee details with the product

Ebay is not an authorised sales platform as far as warranties go. There are some genuine sellers that do have manufacture support but they tend to be the big retailers like Argos etc.

A lot of Ebay stuff is grey market or private sales that the manufactures have no control over so that's why they ask for proper proof of purchase. Ebay from a private seller is no good unless they can give you a proper invoice.

Warranty is not your Consumer Rights .
Warranty can be subject to any terms and conditions they choose .
Your Consumer Rights are against the vendor not Nintendo .

As said from Ebay can be used or grey import and not covered by warranty .

Its the seller you go after if Nintendo refuse you .
