British Gas Business incorrect billing
Options
I have just been notified by British Gas Business that my bills for the last 18 months have been incorrect due to them using the incorrect formula for working out the kWh. It turns out that I have been charged less than what I should have been. Every bill has had the correct meter read and paid on time, in full and by direct debit. They have now decided to re bill the account and are charging me £3000 extra. As the issue has been at their end are they able to claim these additional funds?

If they have overcharged you by £3k, would you have expected them to refund you?0 -
As its a business not consumer account check your contract T&C.
But usually no get out for a business .0 -
Only a guess, but it's likely the problem is with the Gas Meter that BG thought was a "Metric" meter - Meter face is marked m3 ( which Delivers appx 11.2Kwh for each meter unit )
If in fact it is an "Imperial" meter - Meter face is marked ft3 ( This delivers appx 31,5 Kwh for each meter unit )
The difference is 183%, and I'm afraid just as your business is allowed to adjust invoicing errors for up to 6 years, that BG have the same rights
Check that the marking on your meter is indeed m3
Check the billing by dividing the number of Kwh charged by the number of Meter units used0
