Peculiar "creamed mushroom" -like smell in car
Erm ok this may sound rather peculiar but I am getting a smell that is somewhat like creamed mushrooms in the car. I wouldn't be asking about it if the smell wasn't persistent (even after spraying a can of odour elimiator stuff in there and through the vents), or the fact I have never had any creamed mushrooms in the car or consumed anything of the sort in the car.
Was just wondering if the smell could indicate some sort of leak/fumes/malfunction. I am guessing it's probably just a smell that needs to wear off but thought it worth seeing if anyone knew different.
Thanks in advance.

Aircon needs de fuzzing probably...0

It does indeed sound like an air con/heating system problem.
Microbes/bacteria/funghi can build up in the system and then 'smell' when the ambient exterior temperature/humidity combine with the system to give you air conditioned or heated air.
Search Ebay or similar for Carplan or Comma air con cleaner, set it off in the car following the instructions and over the next week or so the smell should go.

I have to agree with the other posts but would also check under the mats etc for dampness and any growing fungus ? If you do find anything growing, this may be of use

Actually I noticed some white looking stuff that I thought nothing of and just thought I might have dragged in on my shoes. Will have to pull the carpet up.0

What car is it...?0

Skoda Favorit 94. Apparently a common problem is perishing of the windscreen seals letting in water, because it's just a rubber seal and not bonded like in modern cars. I guess any dampness would be more noticeable now as it's just rained so will have to have a feel around.0

Having a feel around for any dampness? Oh, suit you sir :whistle:0

Over on the OS forum, there is a thread about the obvious aftermath of someone leaving some fish fingers in their car. Evidently, leaving a tray of (unused!) cat litter in the car will actually absorb such unwanted odours.
However, identifying and sorting the actual cause has to be the first objective. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0
