Sainsburys pay-in book

Can you pay-in to a Sainsburys account using your pay-in book over the counter in Halifax branches for free?

Thanks

    Extremely doubtful!

The paying-in book issued by Sainsbury's Bank is for use when making postal payments using the pre-paid envelopes supplied by them. Remember that Sainsbury's Bank is run by the Bank of Scotland at their HQ in Edinbugh it doesn't actually have anything to do with Halifax other than HBOS being their parent company.

Certainly can, I have done this at a Halifax agency, so I am sure that you can do it at a Halifax bank

Derrick, I am really surprised to hear that! On the Sainbury's Bank website there is list of the different ways of paying money into an Instant Access Savings Account & a longer list for the Internet Saver Account. Neither of these lists include being able to pay cash into your account over the counter in any bank whatsoever. I wonder why Sainsbury's Bank have omitted this method of crediting an account on both lists?
  • Just a thought - would Halifax perhaps allow this if the cheque being paid into the Sainsbury's account was from a Halifax account rather than, for example, HSBC?
  • On the giro slips on my saver accounts it says you can but the charge may vary depending on the bank or building society.

    I've been Money Tipped!
As long as the slip has a bank sort code on it and account number you can pay it in over the couner at your bank just like you would do for any bills with a bank Giro Credit slip on the bottom and credit card payment.

There is only normally a charge if you are trying to use a banks counter service that you don't hold an account with.
  • Thanks for the repiles.
