Working for Uber?

Most Uber drivers use their own cars although drivers can rent or lease a car to drive with Uber. Uber offers car rental or leasing via Getaround, Hertz, and Fair and Uber and BYD Auto have a partnership to provide leasing of electric cars to Uber drivers in Chicago and New York City.
Drivers must meet requirements for age, health, car age and type, have a driver's license and a smartphone or tablet, and must pass a background check. In many cities, vehicles used by Uber drivers must pass annual safety inspections and/or must have an Uber emblem posted in the passenger window. Some cities also require Uber drivers to have a business license.
Uber drivers are considered independent contractors and not employees.
Anyone use Uber or any Uber drivers have experience of the rewards? I already have the correct training, CPC.
Does work just come via the ap or is it regualar customers that need to be built up?

Have you ever used the UBER app?
Theres no option to pick who you want to pick you up. Some drivers may give customers their direct contact details if they require regular long runs but i would imagine its frowned upon by UBER.0 -

I was reading that drivers have their own car insurance, then Uber insure them on top of that, so without Uber taking their cut, any paying passengers would not be insured. Is that just a cut'n'paste from some US thing?0 -

Wiki
AFAIK if the driver has his own insurance, then - even if he's not covered for business use - the passengers are covered under the insurer's 3rd party obligations. They may try to recover any payout from the driver, which would probably mean bankruptcy.0 -

I thought Uber's were minicabs so they all must be tested.0 -
UBER drivers in this country are all licenced Private Hire (Minicab to those in London) drivers and subject to the same background checks. Likewise their vehicles are also subject to the same council checks, including I believe six monthly inspections. They'd also need to provide evidence they have hire and reward private hire insurance in place.0

Yup. All Uber is is a national(ish) minicab firm with a good app and a lot of brand recognition. Legally, it's no different to "AAAA1 Taxis".0

The idea of Uber and Lyft in the US is that they're cheap for the passenger and the drivers can make a bit of extra money without committing themselves to a lifetime of being a taxi driver.
Uber isn't cheap in the UK, at all. Not sure if the drivers do better out of it.0 -

I recall being on a training course and they said private hire just have yearly checks, ie their MOT.0 -

Believe it depends on the council, six monthly in my area, after the first year, and seemingly in London as well.
