One of London’s biggest free events, and kickstarting the Greenwich Peninsula summer cultural programming, this modern summer fete with a twist is a celebration of creativity, culture and community in the city. Curated by Hemingway Design, the fete celebrates its 5th year by bringing together some of the finest music, dance, comedy, workshops, talks, arts, crafts and food for a fun-filled day for all ages.
Get ready to dance to the specially selected summer tunes of headline DJ Gilles Peterson along with performances from Jazz Re:Freshed on the main stage; display your turntable prowess on the Family stage as Charity Shop DJ host the Urban Village Fete Eurovision DJ Contest; and for those with a love of London, go listen to Robert Elms debate the ‘future of working in the City’.
There will be colourful walkabout entertainment such as the cheeky Sniffer Dogs causing mischief with their tongue-in-cheek performances, and a huge line-up of interactive workshops suitable for all ages. There will be model making and storyboarding from award winning Wallace & Gromit creators Aardman Animation and drawing techniques from Sprayskool / Ted Draws. Plus you can up your dance skills and shake that booty with the Land of a Thousand Dances where you’ll be taught to Floss, Harlem Shake, do the Robot or just do it Gangnam style... all courtesy of Greenwich Dance.
If you want to get your swag on there’ll also be a host of stalls with cool crafts and clothing by local designer makers. And of course if you are peckish or need to satiate that thirst, there’ll be a variety of refreshments and tasty things to savour from some of London’s finest street food vendors.
Having attracted over 30,000 visitors last year, 2019’s Urban Village Fete promises to be bigger and bolder and even more fun.
