Burglary - Likliness of house insurance paying out

Hi there,

We recently had a burglary of our flat. We have a separate door not a communal one and it was completely kicked through. It appears as though it was just someone on foot who took what they could find quickly. I've read a lot of conflicting advice around how much evidence of possession is needed to be paid out and if evidence needs to be provided for everything or just things like expensive jewellery. The claim I'm making isn't exactly unusual stuff so I wondered if anyone with any experience in this area had any idea how likely I'd be to be covered. Here is what has been taken:

* A laptop. Around £400 when bought but that was quite a few years ago but I have no box or receipt for it at all.

* £300 cash

*Pandora bracelet with 13 charms (probably around £400 total value) we may have some photos with this in but probably not showing all of the charms clearly. We have some of the boxes for the charms and some of the payments may be able to be found via online banking but many of them though were presents or bought a long time ago.

* 3 x bottles of aftershave. Around £60 worth. No proof.

* 2 x bottles of alcohol. Around £50 in value. This is the one thing I definitely have photographic evidence of!

* A couple of old mobile phones. Nothing new or expensive just old iphone 3g/4. Perhaps we may have an old email about the contracts but I wont know for sure until my mum gets back from holiday.

In future I will certainly keep receipts for things like laptops TVs etc but surely people have claimed before without having a receipt for absolutely everything, and what about cash?

Thanks

    Log the claim, see what they say, be honest about what you have/haven't got.

    With it being sub £1,500 worth of stuff in total plus the damage to the door if its yours to insure, they may just offer you a cash settlement.

    If they do ask supply what you have.

    They will also require a crime reference number.

    In future keep a little file with receipts and photos if higher value stuff, I buy mostly online so just have a receipts file in my e-mail folder and save them all there. If you have a large loss they are invaluable.

    Thanks, I was hoping they'd just offer a quick settlement with it being a relatively low value claim so fingers crossed! The door is insured with the owner of the freehold of the flats so we won't need to claim for that either.
