In June, I'm having a day out with my daughter (12).
Early start, drive/train to Manchester airport, fly to Schiphol, 4 hours in Amsetrdam, train to Brussels, 2 and a bit hours in Brussels, train to London St Pancras, tea in London and then train home.
I have 4 hours to kill in Amsterdam with my daughter and a blank piece of paper - please inspire me !
So far, its looking like a canal trip with a stopoff at a diamond "museum".
p.s. the 4 hours is from arriving at Central Station, to having to return to Central station for the onward leg.

Would she be interested in Anne Frank's house?

I'll run it by her and see what she says - if it is part of her Y6 work, its a good suggestion.0 -
If you do decide on Anne Franks house, make sure to book online before you go.
We had an 8 hour layover in Amsterdam in november, jumped on the train and tried to get in to Anne Franks House, but you can't buy tickets on the day! It was so bitterly cold with snow (after 2 weeks in sri lanka too), we ended up back at the airport after 4 hours wandering around and having lunch.0 -
I think it may be too late to book online now for June.0

Floating flower market
Hot chocolate and waffles in a canal side cafe
Van Gogh Museum
Visit the Old Church0 -
Drink.
Failing that, the bodyworks museum is very interesting if that's your thing.
If not, the Royal Palace off Dam square is only about 10 Euro and can easily take up a few hours.0 -

According to the website it would appear that there are tickets available for every day in June apart from the first two Saturdays and Sundays - quite a few days only have limited time slots though so possibly wouldn’t fit with Murphy’s time restrictions.2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs (offset): 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07,

I'd definitely do a canal tour. It's fascinating and if you look up the different roof styles in advance:
https://www.amsterdamforvisitors.com/canal-house-gables/
your DD (and you;)) will have fun spotting them.
Then, unless you can get a timed tour fro Ann Frank's House, I'd just wander, sit in a pavement caf!, watch the world go by.:)0 -
In addition to the suggestions how about a free river boat trip, well it was free last time we went. From the docks behind Central Station there are a number of boats which ferries commuters from over the river. The longest journey took about 30 minutes return, no ticket required.0

cheers folks - if the timing can be made to work, canal trip, floating flower market and hot choccy with waffles should work nicely for us.
Brussels will be an easier job - finding a nice choocy shop to get some goodies for Mrs Cat !0
