Insurance being cancelled because i didn't declare sorn because car remained uninsured before it

Hi,
would be grateful if you could suggest a solution to my situation.
my car got stolen in November 2018 a couple of days before my policy expiry date. it got recovered and I didn't make any claim. it needed some repairs I arranged this to be brought home on a recovery truck. before repairs, i had to go aborad due to some family emergency and I deferred the repairs till i return. my trip got prolonged.
on 27th Feb got a reminder letter from dvla to insure the vehicle or declare SORN. when i knew about this letter by family, did declare SORN straight away.
returned back on 23rd March and got insurance on the car and paid tax etc to drive it.
the new insurance company asked for proof of my 10 years no claim. when I provided it on 07-5-19, they are now canceling my insurance with the reason that your car was uninsured for a period of around two months that increases the risk factor for the insurer. hence they are canceling the insurance, almost keeping half the amount paid to them on the name of the cancellation fee, etc. I'm loosing around £250 out of £500 paid.
not sure how to deal, the insurance company is getting the money for providing 6 week's cover... not giving me any options.
anyone else in such situation? any suggestions on how best it could be dealt?
thanks,
Farrukh

A simple letter for the lack of insurance should suffice really. most insurers would accept a NCD for a lapsed policy up to 2 years so I think they have either mis-understood or acting like dicks.

You need to get this sorted out and reinstated as you have to technically declare that you have had a policy cancelled now and forever.

Call customer services, ask the person who their manager is and ask to speak to THEIR manager as this may have serious implications for you.

    Good lucks

We had something very similar on here just a few months ago.

Tesco on that occasion saying that as the OP's vehicle had been uninsured for more than 30 days they wouldn't accept their 8 years no claims bonus.

This wouldn't be Tesco again by any chance?
