    It is called "The Complete Home Improvement Manual" (1991) by Richard Wiles.

    I did say it was an old one. So it does not have anything on decking or laminated timber flooring but that is fine by me.

    The readers digest book of diy is good, along with another one, can't remember the name, DIY in bright bold red features heavily on the front though...The former can usually be found in charity shops. They are both weighty tomes though...literally.

    Might you be speaking by about "Collins Complete DIY Manual" ??

    just had a look on amazon and it sort of matches your description

    This is a good one, as is every book I've read by Jackson and Day [eg "How To Store Just About Anything" is a neat storage ideas book].
