Washing Machine Problem...help!!

Our washing machine for four years has started playing up a bit. After loading clothes and turning the washing button to ‘ON’, the whole house is plunged into blackness.

The lights are back ON after pushing the fuse button on the electric meter board to its original position.

1. The socket is fine as I have tested it on other appliance.
2. I have not changed the fuse in the plug yet!!

Can anyone advice where the problem lies??

Thanks in advance.

it's shorting out inside, could be something as simple as a connector touting the metal work of the chassis, or it's something more basic like the motor has blown and blows the fuse as soon as power gets to it

This happened to us on Friday, the babysitter told us it happened while we were out. She mamaged to sort it out. I thought it has been a light that had gone but she said that just before it went the washing machine was making strange noises. As the washing machine light was still on and the cloths were clean and had obviously had spun I thought all was well. Husband put machine on saturday morning fills with water no drum action what so ever. The machine is nearly 4 years old smeg integrated and for the last year has been playing up with lots of visits from the repair bloke under warranty. At least previous times I colud still use it with care, but now it is dead. Being a smeg parts are always having to be ordered and take ages to come into stock. I decided that I would replace it so will have a new washing machine on Tuesday, Freestanding this time, with a large load capacity 8kg. The smeg was 5kg and that was at a push to much in it and the clothes came out with marks on them. Not very money saving buying a new machine but really can't live without a washing machine.
