How much should a litre of Brandy cost on the Algarve

We are going on holiday to the Algarve in June. We want to purchase a litre of Portugese Brandy. How much should it cost and which brand would someone recommend.

Macieira Brandy and Brandy 1920 are the two mid range Portugese Brandy we normally buy. I believe we paid between 12 and 13 Euros for a litre. To our knowledge these brandys are not sold n plastic bottles so bear that fact in mind if you are cnsiding putting them in your hold luggage o ring back to the UK.

We have always enjoyed Brandy 1920 when on holiday in Portugal. I don't know any Portuguese brandies you can purchased in plastic bottles if you are thinking of bringing any back in your hold luggage. Prices are cheaper in the shops on the Algarve than at Faro airport Duty Free shop

Macieria Portuguese Brandy is the one we buy. It is very palatable. As far as we can remember we paid 12.50 Euros.
  • The cheapest place we found to buy Macieria 5 star brandy was the chain of off licences called Soares. Prices did differ in various locations/stores on the Algarve. We found one in Alburferia Town Square earlier this summer where it was on special offer and only cost 11 Euros for a litre

Does it matter if this post originated in May. The current cost of Portuguese Brandy could be of continuing interest to many. The Supermarkets do tend to be more expensive and we also recently purchased our litre of Macieria 5 star brandy in a branch of Soares in Alvor for 12 euros. Brandy 1920 mentioned earlier was also available for around the same price. personally we prefer the Macieria brandy but it is a matter of taste. Both are nice.

It means the op is unlikely to return ....
