Whatsapp problems

I don't know if I should have put this in the Mobile section, but here goes.
Recently, Whatsapp has had a few problems on my phone. While the phone is 'open', I get the sound indication, but when the phone 'closes', I don't. But the second I physically lift the phone, to check, it sounds, and the message comes through, even although it can be some time since the message was actually sent!
Also, the 2 ticks aren't turning blue when the recipient opens a message I've sent.
So..................any solutions?
TIA

OS version update recently? Checked (again) your notification settings? Allowed Whatsapp as a priority app in the battery settings?0 -
Android phone.
I actually find the Whatsapp Setting not very intuitive.
No priority in the battery settings.David.0 -
Settings | Battery | Close apps after screen lock | slide to Off those apps you DON'T want to close when you lock the screen. Make sure Whatsapp is one of those.0

Which Android version do you have? Which phone do you have? (Mine is 7.0 on a Huawei P9 Lite). You'll have those options but they'll be worded slightly differently/under a different heading.0

Try This:-
From a Home screen, navigate: Apps Apps icon > Settings Settings icon > Notifications Sound icon.
From Notifications tap the Settings icon Settings icon.
Tap On the lock screen then select an option:
Don't show notifications at all.
Show all notification content.
Hide sensitive notification content.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you
