Is it easy to open a basic bank acc? No overdraft or credit needed. Has to be a bricks and mortar bank, not online only.

Yes it is as long as you have ID you can open a basic account.
All banks have to offer them.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
You will only be offered a Basic account if you are not eligible for a full current account with the bank. If you are eligible for a full account just decline any overdraft they offer you and perhaps even ask them for non contactless card?0

It's not for me PD. The person has a full current bank acc but might need another one for emergencies. He has a lot of debt so maybe wouldn't get another acc anyway.0

As already advised, he's unlikely to be able to open a basic account in that case. It would probably be best to get him to sign up to the forum himself and post on the Debt Free Wannabe board to get recommendations suitable to his situation about all aspects of his finances.0
