Dyson Energy Services Combi Boiler

Hi,
On the 26 June 2017, we had a "free" new Combi Boiler installed as part of a scheme ran by nPower (we were an nPower customer at the time), we qualified for their criteria. The boiler was actually supplied and fitted by Dyson Energy Services Ltd. West Yorkshire. The Dyson engineer signed all the relevant paperwork.

Late in March this year, we found to our horror that the Condensate Drain pipe from the boiler was not installed as per the installation manual. In fact, it was installed so that condensate drains directly on our concrete slab foundation in our cellar. The immediate brick work is being also being affected. There is an existing plastic foul water drain less than 2m away.

I took various photographs as evidence and emailed them to Dyson. On the 2 April we had a visit by a Dyson surveyor who inspected the Condensate Pipe and took more pictures and agreed that it was not correct an that Dyson would be in touch as a matter of urgency to rectify the fault. But Dyson have gone very quiet even though I emailed them a reminder recently.

I have placed a bucket under the condensate drain pipe, but after just a month it over flowed and needed emptying. So, god knows how much condensate has been draining onto our foundations since the boiler was installed.

Unfortunately, I cannot find an option to upload any pictures from my laptop.

Who can I escalate this matter too? Because I am concerned about the potential damage being caused as I understand this condensate is acidic.

Keep the bucket there and empty it regularly as a start.

Who do you have a contract with for the installation? npower or Dyson?
  • The original arrangement I guess was via nPower. But we are no longer a customer of theirs. We don't have any other contracts with nPower or Dyson.

Don't guess, you need to find out for certain. It doesn't matter that you're no longer a customer of npower if they are responsible. What paperwork or email trail do you have of the contract?
  • I have original entitlement letter from nPower and paperwork from Dyson. So is nPower or Dyson responsible for the actual installation fault?

    I don't know because I can't read your paperwork.

In non-legal speak I would say that if your contract was with npower then Dyson are responsible for the fault but npower are accountable for it and should be the company that organises putting it right. If npower simply referred you to Dyson and your contract was with Dyson then it's them who should deal with the problem.

I know the boiler was "free", but presumably you paid something to someone. Who did you pay?
  • We fortunately did not have to pay any up front costs so I cannot use that aspect.

Just thinking here, is there a authorive body e.g. association of boiler installers that Dyson belong too?

I am inclined to email both Dyson (again) and nPower.

Ok, I was using the payment element to try and work out who you had a contract with. So you paid nothing at all, for the boiler or installation? You must have some paperwork relating to the work?

In the absence of any records, keep on at Dyson. They're clearly aware of the problem having responded and been out already. You could always write them a letter asking them to respond within 14 days or you will proceed to employ a contractor to put things right and then will claim the costs from them.
